The Old-Fashioned
Rinse an Old-Fashioned glass with absinthe and dump. Stir the remaining ingredients over ice, then strain into the glass. Express the lemon twist over the drink and discard.
Often called America's oldest cocktail, tracing to 1830s New Orleans and named for the Sazerac de Forge et Fils Cognac originally used; rye whiskey and a rinse of absinthe became the standard as the recipe evolved through the 19th century.
