The Whisky Highball
Tequila Sunrise
Ingredients
- 2 ounces
- 4 ounces fresh juice
- ¼ ounce fresh juice
- ¼ ounce House Grenadine
- Garnish: 1 half wheel and 1 wedge
Method
Combine the tequila, orange juice, and lime juice in a Highball glass, then add 3 ice cubes. Stir for 3 seconds. Add the grenadine and don’t stir so it will settle to the bottom of the glass. Garnish with the orange half wheel and lime wedge.
History
Gained mainstream fame after the Rolling Stones served it at their 1972 American tour, though grenadine-and-tequila drinks under similar names existed earlier — the layered sunrise effect comes from grenadine slowly sinking through orange juice and tequila.
